The government is taking over the management of Uganda Telecom Limited after its majority shareholders, Libya Posts Telecommunications & IT Company, said they would no longer fund the cash-strapped telecom.

Uber drivers protest reduced fares
Uber drivers in Kampala are going offline and refusing to take passengers in protest after the company cut fares this month. A section of the drivers says that with the reduced fares, being an Uber driver is no longer a viable business option.

Company profile: Cipla Quality Chemicals Industries Ltd
The drugmaker was established in 2005 as a joint venture between Cipla Limited and Ugandan businessmen. In a government-brokered partnership, Cipla Ltd - one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers - joined with a local firm, Quality Chemicals Ltd (QCL), to manufacture antiretroviral and antimalarial drugs locally.

Company profile: Sadolin Paints (U) Ltd
Sadolin Paints Uganda established in 1963, and currently has more than 50% of the local market share. In 2017, Japan's Kansai Paints acquired the company in a deal that was said to be the biggest corporate acquisition in East Africa.

Vision Group sees revenue fall on reduced circulation and low economic activity
A decline in revenue from commercial printing and circulation was the biggest contributor to the fall in net profit of New Vision Printing and Publishing Company Ltd in the half year to 31 December 2016, unaudited results released on Friday show.

Kansai Paint agrees acquisition of Sadolin’s East Africa operations
Kansai Plascon Africa Limited, a subsidiary of the Osaka-based Kansai Paint Co, has reached a binding agreement for the full acquisition of Sadolin Paints' operations in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, and Burundi, according to a company statement.
