Ibrahim Index: Overall gains for Uganda, but declines in corruption and public governance
Uganda has improved in overall governance since 2006, moving up by 3.4 points. It was 19th in Africa in 2015 out of 54 nations with a score of 56.2. It's also one of 19 countries that improved in the safety and rule of law category over the last ten years.

Umeme borrows $50 million to fund grid expansion
Umeme is borrowing $50 million from the the International Finance Corporation and various banks to upgrade and expand its medium voltage transmission lines and substations, and to fund the installation of more prepaid meters across the country.

Umeme HY2016 profit falls to Shs54.5bn on financing costs
Umeme’s revenue grew 20.3% to Shs658.7 billion ($195.5m) in the first half of 2016 on higher power sales but net profit fell from Shs67.6bn to Shs54.5bn ($16.2m) on increased financing costs and a normalised tax rate, half-year results released today show.

Babungi is the first Ugandan to head the power distribution utility. He joined Umeme in 2006 as credit control manager after six years at Ernst & Young, rose to area manager and later chief financial officer before his current post.
